John McGivney Eagle Project (1991)
John McGivney’s Eagle Scout Service Project was a food and clothing drive collecting canned foods, non-perishable foods, and any type of clothing. John set up collection bins inside Manhasset supermarkets and had sign ups for Scouts to go and pick up items from people’s houses. He also created posters and put them inside schools, churches, the library, and other spots around town. All the items collected were then donated to the Anthony House, a part of The Society of St. Vincent DePaul, which then distributed them to the poor and homeless in their homeless shelter in Roosevelt. The project was completed by October 12, 1991 after 216 total hours of work.
