Valentines for Vets
The time is quickly approaching when students in the 16th Assembly District will have the opportunity to open their hearts to the annual Valentines for Vets Program.
This is an annual district-wide effort to show the hospitalized veterans who have served our country that they are appreciated and have not been forgotten. Last year, public and private schools in East Williston, Great Neck, Herricks, Manhasset, Mineola, New Hyde Park, Port Washington and Roslyn collected truckloads of handmade valentines and gifts that were distributed at the New York State Veterans Home in Stony Brook and at the Northport Veterans Administration Medical Center.
What better way to show our appreciation for the sacrifice that our veterans have made for us than to send a valentine or donate a new item that veterans can use?
Troop 71 will be collecting for this at its first three January Troop Meetings. This is something all family members, not just Scouts, can participate in.
Suggested items include handmade valentines, non-slip socks, winter hats, gloves, scarves, sweatpants, sweatshirts, electric toothbrushes, electric razors, iTunes and phone cards, DVD movies (new releases, action, Broadway hits, comedy, and classics), CDs (Big Band, Jazz, Old Time Rock ‘n Roll, Motown, and Patriotic), and toiletries.
Thank you for your support.
