Harriman Overnight Camping

November 2-3 (Sat-Sun), 2013: Camping at Harriman State Park.  No cost.  Permission Slip (due 10/24 meeting)

This trip is appropriate for all Scouts, but note that we must hike in about 1.5 miles along rocky terrain to the campsite, where there is no potable water (we carry it in) or restroom.  So, pack light and lace up your hiking boots!
  • We leave from the usual Plandome RR Station south parking lot at 10:00 am.
  • For those driving, note that Harriman State Park is huge and we are meeting in a specific parking lot located off of Seven Lakes Drive that serves the boat launch for Lake Sebago, known as Baker's Camp.  See this link and proceed carefully.
  • Dinner is foil cooking around the campfire: each Scout should prepare something at home, wrap it in heavy foil, freeze it overnight, and bring it to heat up for dinner.  No cooking gear will be carried in.  See ourTroop Soup page for recipe ideas.
Each participant must have:
  • bag lunch for Saturday before the hike in
  • dinner for Saturday (see above)
  • simple breakfast for Sunday (granola bars, etc.)
  • backpack/frame pack
  • insect repellent
  • lightweight tent (or make shared tent arrangements ahead of time)
  • lightweight sleeping bag rated to 32 degrees F. or less, sleeping pad/pillow as desired
  • at least two full water bottles
  • mess kit w/ utensils (if necessary for your dinner)
  • flashlight/headlamp/lantern
  • warm jacket, hat/hood & warm clothes for sleeping
  • hiking boots
