Scoutmaster minutes and Important Fall dates

posted Aug 19, 2011, 6:58 AM by Plandome Troop71

Dear All,

What a terrific Summer Troop 71 had, three Summer Camps and the 50-Miler High Adventure Trek.

I would like to thank all of you for your help and support in these wonderful endeavors.
Parental involvement is key for making these events happen and run smoothly. Please support the troop in anyway you can,
whether its driving scouts to or from events or your participation in them, this is essential to Troop 71's success.
Through your participation, not only will you get to spend quality time with your son,
but you will also have the opportunity to form strong bonds with our scouts, adult leaders and fellow parents.

I hope you feel a great sense of personal fulfillment in the perpetration and participation in scouting events as I do.

Yours in Scouting,

George W. Cox

WHY GO CAMPING?

posted Feb 28, 2011, 9:33 AM by Rex Johnson

WHY GO CAMPING?

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. What better place to instill those values and lessons then camping in the great outdoors.

Camping provides that unique venue to teach, interact and have fun in ways that many boys never get to experience. Whether you’re perspective is cub scouts, boy scouts or venturing. “Camping” offers youth and adult alike the opportunity to learn and grow. It’s completely hands-on and active. Camping gives everyone a chance to learn by doing and at a pace that is commensurate with the individual or group.

To this end, Shelter Rock District offers you the opportunity to bring your Scouts to camp and enjoy a fun and outstanding program brought to you by our Activities committee.

This is also a perfect time to camp with your new Scouts. Schiff is very camp friendly and they will have a great time with the program.

See you there,

Bruce

What is "Scout Spirit"?

posted Jan 18, 2010, 3:48 PM by Rex Johnson   [ updated Jan 25, 2010, 8:28 AM ]

Beginning with Scout Second Class, all requirements include "Demonstrate Scout Spirit by living the Scout Oath and the Scout Law in your everyday life." "Scout Spirit" - what is that? A simple Google seach will yield a plethora of material on the subject. There is no single right approach to this question, but the attached practical guide seems useful.

BSA Internet Website Guidelines

Attached is Unit Web Page Guidelines provided by the BSA. Troop 71 policy is to ensure clear compliance with those guidelines.

The Troop wishes to maintain a photo gallery of scouting events. The referenced guidelines strongly recommend that the Troop obtain a parental consent for the use of Scout photos on the website. That form is also attached to this post.
